Fishing With Trigger Traps.
Fremantle Octopus is an industry innovator having invented its patented “Trigger Trap” technology, considered to be the world’s most ethical and environmentally sensitive octopus catch method.
The trap uses a decoy crab filled with a sustainable tuna bait pellet to lure the octopus, triggering the trap door to shut once entered, with zero by catch and zero ghost fishing. The trap’s design allows water to flow freely, ensuring the octopus is well nourished while awaiting retrieval.
Once on board, the octopus is stored in an ice slurry of 70% seawater and 30% ice, before being transported directly from the docks by Fremantle Octopus trucks to its partner state-of-the-art processing facility in Perth.
